Reinforced Concrete

Structural analysis, design and detailing of reinforced concrete structures, ranging from single elements to complete buildings. The correct design, and detailing, of reinforced concrete is essential to minimise project cost, and ensure long term durability. The structural form is driven by the client requirements, and is influenced by many factors including building type, loading, fire resistance, and exposure to contaminants. Reinforced concrete foundations, columns, beams, slabs and walls are used to construct structures ranging from bespoke single occupancy dwellings to apartment blocks, and hospitals.

Structural Steelwork

Structural Steelwork

Structural analysis and design of steelwork structures, ranging from single elements to complete buildings. Single element structural steelwork design, such as RSJ designs, may be required for alterations to existing buildings when removing internal load-bearing walls. More extensive alterations such as the partial removal of existing facade walls may require structural steelwork frames. Steelwork buildings require a complete analysis and design service, which Dunican Consulting Engineers can provide.

Timber

Design of timber structures, ranging from single elements to complete buildings. Timber is a lightweight, and sustainable, building material and is most often encountered in floor, and roof construction.

Masonry Wall Cladding

Masonry

Structural analysis and design of masonry structures, ranging from single elements to complete buildings. Masonry includes concrete blockwork, and clay fired bricks. Masonry as a construction material is most often encountered in residential housing construction, and as a cladding material to structural steelwork, and reinforced concrete, frame buildings.

Existing Buildings

Highly skilled, and experienced, in regeneration of existing building structures. Buildings which are designed, and built, correctly and adequately maintained can have a long, and useful, life. Changes in required function often require alterations to existing buildings. For these projects to be a success it is essential that the existing structure is clearly understood. This includes the existing structural form, the existing materials, their condition, and any previous alterations.

Structural Survey

Structural Surveys

A structural survey will provide information regarding the existing structural condition of a structure. The structural report will identify structural defects, and highlight any items that may lead to defects in the future. A structural survey, and report, is often commissioned by a client when a defect is identified and they require advice regarding the severity of the defect, and appropriate remedial action. These defects can range from cracks, or leans, in masonry walls to deterioration of existing timber.
